The special rules for the import of food and feed originating in or coming from Japan following the accident at the Fukushima nuclear power plant have already been progressively relaxed in recent years.
The Japanese competent authorities have committed to maintain an appropriate and comprehensive monitoring system for the detection of radionuclides in food and feed and to make the monitoring results publicly available through regular publication of all monitoring results on the website of the Japanese Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare.
Regulation (EU) 2023/1453 therefore repeals Implementing Regulation (EU) 2021/1533 imposing special conditions on the import of food and feed originating in or consigned from Japan following the accident at the Fukushima nuclear power plant, effective August 3, 2023.
