Official certificates
The BAVG is responsible for issuing official certificates or official attestations for animals in accordance with the provisions of veterinary law and for goods and products in accordance with the provisions of food law. This serves the purpose of free tradability and for the purpose of exporting such animal and goods consignments to third countries at the request of the person authorized to dispose of them, if this is provided for in the respective third country.
The basis for issuing these certificates or attestations are current marketability reports or safety assessments issued by the agency pursuant to § 65 LMSVG, an inspection body of the federal states pursuant to § 72 LMSVG or by a person authorized to do so pursuant to § 73 LSMVG and do not replace the necessary certificates for individual consignments of goods with regard to the animal health or hygiene status, which are issued by certifying officers when the individual consignments are cleared on site.
Procedure for official certificates
The procedure for official certificates is as follows:
- Application via form (selection: official certificate "Certificate")
- Processing of the application by the BAVG
- The original certified certificate is sent by post (digitally in advance on request)
- Fee proposal will be sent separately afterwards by e-mail or post

Certifications
The BAVG has also been carrying out certifications since 1.1.2022. In particular, signatures on the following documents can be notarized
- Documents issued by the BAVG(certificates,...)
- Documents issued by experts for food, drinking water, consumer goods and cosmetic products
- the Austrian Agency for Health and Food Safety GmbH(AGES) - issued by AGES experts,
- the food testing laboratories of the provinces of Carinthia and Vorarlberg
- with an authorization according to § 73 LMSVG
- Documents issued by Austrian official veterinarians
- Documents issued by the provincial governments in indirect federal administration concerning the food and veterinary sector
- Documents issued by the BMSGPK, Consumer Health and Veterinary Department
The BAVG does NOT notarize signatures:
- Internal company documents
- Documents issued by veterinarians other than official veterinarians
- Documents issued by the Austrian Federal EconomicChamber (WKO) or similar associations or professional organizations
- Documents in connection with animal feed (expert opinion from AGES or similar) (responsibility of the BMLRT)
- Documents confirming the hygiene standards and quality assurance of companies (e.g. GMP, HACCP etc.)
Notarization procedure
The procedure for notarizations is as follows:
- Application via form (selection: notarization)
- Processing of the application by the BAVG
- Notarized document is returned by post (digitally in advance if requested)
- Fee estimate is sent separately afterwards by e-mail or post
